They Call Me Mom

They Call Me Mom

Don’t you love social media? It’s full of awesome stories from travel adventures, education, and parenting skills! I also love seeing every story and adventure as it unfolds. Unfortunately, we rarely see the truth or imperfections behind the perfect photos of anyone's life, even when these are the things that make us unique in who we are!

Hi, I am Gloria Miller, a realtor, investor, and most importantly, mom. I wear many hats in my life, but today they all revolve around being a better mom each day. I am not just a mom; I am a girl mom, and you know what that means.

I have 4(24, 23, 21, 10) beautiful, smart, independent, headstrong, and lovely daughters. Some days they are more lovely than headstrong, and other days, well, you get the point. Each one of my daughters reminds me of myself at one point or another in my life. Let's back up before you think our life has been easy.

As a parent, I always wanted to be the best mom I could be (whatever that was at the time). I left high school to get married when I was 17 and quickly became a mom at 18.

Coming from a Hispanic culture, the parenting standard was normally between being super strict or lenient. My mom was very lenient, so I thought I would do better. I was strict with my girls and treated them all the same. Yup, all the same. I am sure you can guess my parenting abilities were not top-notch and that I failed in many ways.

When I was 32, I decided to return to school and get a college degree. I set a goal to set an example for my daughters and pray that they would follow. As I've gotten older, slightly wiser, and more educated in human psychology, I have adjusted my overall thinking of people and parenting.

I have learned many lessons I had to learn with my girls and many more after my 10-year-old was born. Having the opportunity to have kids in two different stages of life has given me a different and enhanced perspective.

I often wish my older girls had the same mom my 10-year-old does today, but then I remember God had a plan for that. I grew from them as much as they grew in knowledge from me. God has used every aspect to grow me as a person and my girls as well. They are still pretty young and often question my choices, but the reality is that all the decisions made brought us here.

So why does this matter to you? Well, as I share my life with you through social media, whether it's about real estate, investing, divorce or family, please keep in mind that it took a lot of trial and error to get here today. When you see pictures of our family, don't compare yourself to what you see on the screen. I want you to be uplifted and know that we are all going through or have gone through things in our lives, and it's ok to share them.

I hope that what I bring before you each week will help someone to be a form of assurance that we are all in this life together.

So don't forget, give yourself some grace when you feel you could do more or be better. You can do more or be better every day, but the lessons we learn from our mistakes today are irreplaceable.
