    HALLOWEEN: BEST HOLIDAY

HALLOWEEN: BEST HOLIDAY According to Dylan Jankovich - Team Lead of People 1st Realty Group October is the first full month that signifies the end of Summer and the start of Fall. While we may not have leaves changing color in Texas, it marks shorter days and cooler weather. River trips are gone, the cuffing season has begun as couples go apple-picking, people visit the pumpkin patch, and, most importantly, we get ready for HALLOWEEN!   According to Statista, Americans voted Thanksgiving as the #1 most popular holiday and Christmas as #2 (I know, I’m surprised as well), with Halloween as a distant #10 after a few other national holidays! I guess Americans love their days off. Regardless of what the rest of the country thinks, I’m here to tell you the top 3 reasons why Halloween is the absolute best holiday, regardless of Statista and their jaded surveys.   1. Decor! In terms of decorations, there are only really two holidays that truly stand out - Christmas and Halloween. While people love Christmas decorations, there’s generally one theme… jolly! Variety is the spice of life, though! Halloween allows for such a broad range of decor; some choose a cutesy theme, like a Charlie Brown Halloween or Hocus Pocus. Others choose to be downright terrifying, utilizing smoke and a leaf blower to give the effect of a chainsaw (I remember running from precisely this as a kid) or a million other terrifying themes. The point is that Halloween provides something for everyone, and gee dang it, I want some variety when I’m checking out decorations in my neighborhood! 2. Entertainment! Halloween brings all the best things to do! Pumpkin patches are a blast, no matter how old you are. Don’t believe me? Go to Sweet Eats Farm and find someone who doesn’t like launching apples. I’ll wait. You have haunted houses and theme parks all over the place. Check out the House of Torment if you enjoy being scared or watching people get scared. You can take several different haunted paths if you’re feeling extra brave. Halloween parties are the bomb! 3. Community! Most importantly, Halloween is the only genuinely communal holiday. Every significant holiday celebrates spending time with family, which is great, but Halloween is the only one that brings neighbors together regularly. I’ve always loved seeing which neighbors chose which kind of theme and which neighbors are handing out full-size candy bars instead of old Altoids or just pamphlets to sell something. Halloween is an excuse to get all your friends and neighbors together, to dress up, to party, to trick-or-treat, and to meet everyone nearby even if it’s just for a second as they hand out goodies. It’s a time where neighbors means something other than Becky getting mad at you for having weeds in your lawn. Halloween is a chance to show what a community is meant to be. I love the people around me and I love making where I live more than just 4 walls. That’s why Halloween is the best holiday around.
